Library policy is a set of guidelines and rules that govern the operation of a library. These are designed to ensure that the library operates efficiently and effectively.
1. Book Acquisition Policy:
Books and other publications can be recommended for purchase to the Central Library by faculty members and students.
The list of books that the Faculty has requested be purchased for each department should always go through the appropriate Head of the Department.
Students can suggest books to the central library for direct purchase.
The Library is free to place orders with any reputable vendors. When the faculty needs books immediately, they can get them from online book retailers like amazon.com, flipkart.com, etc. using the cash-on-delivery payment option after consulting the librarian.
The concerned personnel in the Acquisition Section confirm the price of each book and the discount rates once the books and bills have been received in the library.
After receiving books in the library, each book is listed in the Accession Register, which contains all the necessary information about the book, including its price, publisher, seller, year of publication, etc.
After that, the bills are sent to the Principal i.e.. Chairperson of the Library Advisory Committee (LAC) for payment with the accession numbers listed against each item.
2. Weeding Out Policy:
The library staff creates a department wise list of outdated books that haven’t been used in the last 15 years.
The list is forwarded to the departments in question for review. After being reviewed by the concerned departments, the list is approved by Library Advisory Committee (LAC) for weeding out the books.
The approved books are removed from the library stack and made freely available to users for academic usage.
The Kokrajhar Govt. College and the Bijni College have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the recycling of academic disposals, therefore books for the remaining titles are sent to the Bijni College for recycling.
